Teacher on trial for allegedly assaulting autistic boy in class

The Magistrate’s Court heard yesterday that the teacher – who the JEP has chosen not to name to protect the identity of the alleged victim – had attacked the boy after he became distressed in a classroom.

At the start of the teacher’s trial, which is expected to last three days, the court heard that the four-year-old had been crying and screaming during a pancake-making class to mark Shrove Tuesday.

It is alleged that the female teacher picked the boy up, placed him on a stool and restrained him as the boy struggled to free himself.
