UK firm paid £2 million to extend life of two car parks

Totals of £1,000,000 and £950,000 was spent on the Pier Road and Sand Street car parks respectively, with the majority of the money being spent on applying special coatings to the concrete to prevent ‘chemical degradation’ taking place, the Infrastructure Department has said.

Funding for the work came from the States Car Park Trading Fund, which facilitates the maintenance, improvement and replacement of car parks.

At the beginning of the year, the balance of the fund was £14.5 million. It has an annual income of £6.7 million and an annual expenditure of £5.1 million
