Rainy-day funds to plug the health black hole?

Last week politicians rejected proposals for the introduction of a new health charge which would have raised £15m for investment in key areas like mental health and children’s services.

And while Treasury Minister Alan Maclean had warned that the decision meant that some of the investment could be put on hold, he has now confirmed that deferring part of the changes is just one option being considered.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Andrew Green said that the money needed to be found to ensure that the transformation of the health service ‘continues at the same pace’.
