How missing persons use up police resources

In less than four hours, while a JEP reporter accompanied officers on a night shift, three missing-person cases were reported to the States police.

Two of the reports involved teenage boys in care who have been reported missing a total of 223 times since 2013.

Each case takes hours of police time in physical searches and paperwork and at one point six officers – a large proportion of the total number on patrol – were dealing with the two individuals, aged 15 and 16.
