Every school’s a winner with new cash bonanza

Unlike in previous years, when cash prizes were given to those schools that collected the most tokens, the format has been altered so that the £10,000 cash prize fund will be divided by the total number of tokens submitted.

For example, if 10,000 tokens are submitted, each token collected will be exchanged for £1. If 100,000 are submitted, they will be exchanged for 10p.

This means that there will no longer be any losers and that every school that takes part, no matter how many tokens they collect, will receive a share of the cash.

The money can be spent on anything that will benefit a school, from improving an area of the premises or buying new play equipment to funding the purchase of new books, sports equipment or computers.

To simplify the scheme, which is sponsored by The One Foundation in partnership with the Jersey Evening Post, there will no longer be any weekly spot prizes, or golden or bonus tickets, and it will now run over two weeks rather than four – from the coming Monday to Saturday 15 October 2016.

A one-off £5,000 special grant is also up for grabs from The One Foundation. All participating schools have the opportunity to apply for the One Foundation Award, explaining what project they need the money for and committing to carrying out the work in the next 12 months. The winner will be chosen by an independent board of judges.

Jersey Evening Post marketing manager Lorenzo Nardone said: ‘We are delighted to have revamped the successful Cash4Schools programme to ensure that every Island school that takes part this year will receive some cash. The schools can put this towards anything they want, from a fun day out to new equipment.

‘Most people will know a family with children, so I would urge all of our readers to keep the tokens from the JEP and hand them over so that they can be turned into cash.’
