Save Our Shoreline Jersey, which yesterday released the document, said that after spending the summer testing water from outflows on the south and south-east coasts, they were ‘shocked’ at the high levels of ammonia and nitrates present in the liquid run-off pumped onto the shore at First Tower.
It is widely accepted that conditions in the bay – warm water, sunshine and nutrient-rich run-off – allow the frequent sea lettuce blooms to take place, leaving the area carpeted in a pungent green plant matter.
It is also suspected that nitrate-rich water from France may be playing a part.
However, SOSJ dispute this claim.
