Third group critical of spending plans

The Economic Affairs Scrutiny Panel is the third such group to hit out at ministers’ spending plans due to be debated next week, saying they lack sufficient detail about key areas, including where cuts are proposed.

In fact, the panel goes as far as to say that the information contained in the Medium Term Financial Plan Addition is so scant that the group’s adviser, Stuart Fair, was ‘very disappointed’ and would have expected far more.

That is despite ministers having had an extra year to work on the details, having put off many key decisions when the first part of the MTFP setting spending up to 2019 was agreed last year.
