Civil servants protest against pay freeze in the Royal Square

Civil service union Prospect said it called the demonstration in the Royal Square because of the States Employment Board’s failure to meet public sector representatives to discuss pay as well as to highlight workers’ concerns about overtime, sick pay and leave entitlement in the future.

More than 100 civil servants from Prospect, supported by their colleagues from Unite, attended the lunch-time gathering.

Tom Quinn, executive officer from Prospect Jersey, told the JEP that he could not remember the last time Island civil servants had

taken part in industrial action but added that workers felt they had no other recourse.
