Campaigners agree to wait for police road safety report

Road safety campaigners lodged a requête – a centuries-old device which enables parishioners to demand a parish assembly be held – which called on St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft to act following the death of Clinton Pringle, who was hit by the van while crossing Tunnell Street in June.

The Friends of Millennium Town Park Group have gained support from more than 3,000 people and will now wait for the results of a report commissioned by the police, before a parish assembly is called by Mr Crowcroft.

The requête, submitted to Mr Crowcroft, called for a road safety expert from outside the Island to be appointed to carry out a detailed investigation and also stated that the expert should have full access to the park’s documents and previous road safety reviews.

A police investigation is still continuing into Clinton’s death. A 38-year-old woman arrested in connection with driving offences remains on police bail.
