Collector’s rare items fetch almost £400,000 at auction

David Gainsborough Roberts was in luck on Wednesday when 66 of his collectable items sold for £397,938 at the Out of the Ordinary Christie’s auction in London.

Mr Gainsborough Roberts had a set of keys belonging to the lamp trimmer on board the Titanic, a red silk headscarf owned by Lawrence of Arabia and a pair of gold and turquoise earclips worn by Duchess of Windsor among his items.

The best-selling item was a beret belonging to field marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, which sold for £35,000 – well above the guide price of between £3,000 and £5,000.
