UK’s police volunteers ‘could learn from Jersey’

Special Constable Simon Bale MBE said honorary police officers should be given body armour, wear the same uniforms and undergo intensive training.

The officer, who has served with the Avon and Somerset force for 25 years, also said the force should significantly increases its presence on social media to help improve its image and attract younger recruits.

He added that the way the honorary force in Jersey managed shifts and the lack of requirement for recruits to take fitness tests were elements he would like to take back to the UK.
