Don’t cut pay of new teachers, says Deputy

In June it was announced in the Medium-Term Financial Plan Addition that the starting salaries of new teachers in Jersey would be reviewed with a view to making total cuts of £480,000 by 2019.

Education Minister Rod Bryans said that wages could be cut from the current standard of £33,000 to £25,000, bringing them in line with the what teachers in the UK can expect.

Deputy Geoff Southern has now lodged an amendment to the MTFP Addition calling for the review to be scrapped.
