Zero-hour contract changes could divert us from priorities, says minister after Scrutiny findings

Last month the Health and Social Security Scrutiny Panel published a review of the use of the controversial contracts in Jersey, which included 17 key findings and 21 recommendations – including proposed changes to the Island’s employment laws.

But in an official response to the review on Wednesday, Deputy Susie Pinel said that if her department were to act on all the proposals and update the law, the introduction of already planned legislation would have to be postponed.

The minister added that if employment laws become too rigid, the business community would be more likely to try to find ways around it.
