Tributes paid to former Beeches headmaster

John Sankey began his time at the school as head of English in 1960, being made lay-headteacher in 1995 and finishing his career in 2000.

Despite his retirement, Mr Sankey remained active within the college and joined the board of governors, eventually being appointed chairman.

In 2007, he was also made a Knight of the Order of St Gregory and the Great, in recognition of his 47 years of work in education within the Catholic Church.
