Jerseywoman’s Olympic journey has a silver lining

Jane de la Mare, who co-owns the 12-year-old gelding Nip Tuck with Sark-born Olympic dressage rider Carl Hester (49), watched on as Mr Hester and Nip Tuck helped to secure the silver medal for Team GB on Friday afternoon in Rio in the team dressage competition.

Germany won gold and the British quartet held off the challenge from the United States to finish in second place with 78.602 points.

Miss de la Mare, who lived in St Brelade before moving to the UK, said: ‘I can’t quite believe my horse helped Great Britain win an Olympic silver medal. It was so nerve-wracking. I only ever want my horse to do his best and for Carl to be happy with the performances, but all the riders and owners felt the pressure to do well and contribute to the team winning a medal.’
