Messages of support and condolence have been sent to Madeira and the Island’s Madeiran community after blazes tore through the Portuguese island, destroying houses and leaving at least three people dead.
Madeirans living in Jersey on Wednesday told how their loved ones back home were forced to run from their properties as the huge fires ripped across the countryside and into the capital. And many Jersey families were yesterday trying to contact relatives currently on holiday in the island.
