Last Greggs outlets to close by end of August

When the UK pasty giant launched its first Jersey store in Halkett Street in January last year, it sold 1,000 sausage rolls on its first day – a record for any Greggs outlet in Britain. Within months, further stores in Colomberie and Les Quennevais had opened.

But the love affair soon ended, and the Colomberie branch closed last autumn, with SandpiperCI, which brought the franchise to the Island, blaming low demand. The other two shops are now due to close within weeks and will be replaced by an in-house bakery.

A SandpiperCI spokesman said: ‘SandpiperCI has decided to end the franchise agreement with Greggs. The well-known UK brand has had limited success in Jersey, mainly due to high delivery charges and costs.
