£250,000 memorial to soldiers gets go-ahead

The monument was designed by Islander Siobhann Macleod and won a St Helier parish-run competition earlier this year.

Four entries from a shortlist of 16 submissions were displayed at the Town Hall in March, with the winning design selected by the parish’s Roads Committee in April.

Now, plans have been approved for the memorial, which is due to be built on land opposite the Cenotaph in Parade Gardens. It will replace a Jersey Electricity sub-station, pergola and bench.
