Public have a say on new school building

The £40 million scheme has been developed by Jersey Property Holdings, part of the Infrastructure Department, and proposes building on protected green-zone agricultural fields south of Rue Carré in St Brelade.

The publication of the plans followed a consultation process in which Islanders were presented with three possible sites for the new school and, if approved, the 850-student facility would be the biggest investment ever made in education in Jersey by the States.

The proposed site is in the protected green zone, where there is a presumption against development and which requires exceptional reasons before new buildings are approved. Public inquiries are used when planning applications propose projects which depart from normal planning policies outlined in the Island Plan, a document which governs building in Jersey.
