Armed police patrol the streets of St Malo

Last week, an extra 96 soldiers and armed police were deployed to St Malo and surrounding towns including Dinard as part of nationwide plans to reduce the risk of further atrocities and they will be carrying out extra patrols until 29 August.

And chief lifeguards, including St Malo’s, have for the first time been issued with pistols which they will carry while patrolling the beaches.

Today the States said they were aware of the increased patrols in the Ille-et-Vilaine region, which covers a section of northern Brittany, and were in close contact with the French authorities.
