Deputy and blogger join Senator race

Deputy Mézec and Mr Dun, who has campaigned to remove Constables from the States and has run for election three times, have joined former politicians Guy de Faye and Sarah Ferguson, lawyer Christian May and entertainer Stevie Ocean in the race to fill the seat left vacant by Senator Zoe Cameron, who resigned earlier this month after less than two years in the States.

Deputy Mézec, who was chosen to represent Reform Jersey in the contest at a party meeting on Tuesday night, said the by-election represented a chance for the electorate to ‘send a strong message’ to the Council of Ministers. He does not have to vacate his current seat to stand in the by-election, however, if elected, a by-election to fill his Deputy seat would be triggered.

Mr Dun, who regularly blogs about Scrutiny hearings, said that if he was elected he would work to ensure that Jersey does not become independent when the UK leaves the EU.

The by-election will be held on Wednesday 7 September.
