Strategy to increase access to countryside

Environment Minister Steve Luce on Tuesday outlined his department’s new Countryside Access Strategy, which follows a lengthy consultation about the paths and routes that can be found all over Jersey.

He said that respondents wanted better information about walking routes, more connectivity between paths and for the tracks to maintain their ‘natural feel’.

Following a public consultation launched in 2014, Deputy Luce has now published the strategy, which identifies four key areas to improve the network of paths and according to the report, in the coming months and years the Environment Department will focus on improving engagement and co-operative working between stakeholders by creating two forum groups to discuss use of the Island’s footpaths and access to routes.
