Rescued man in court on theft and drugs charges

Barry John Picot (31), of Rue de Crocquet, St Brelade, also faces other motoring charges.

In all, nine charges were put to him and Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris said: ‘I am aware of the circumstances and that eight of the alleged offences are connected to an incident that happened over the weekend.’

Mr Picot, who wore a grey T-shirt, only spoke to confirm his name and was remanded in custody after his brief appearance. The charges put to him were that on Friday he took and drove away a green Toyota Hilux from La Collette without the consent of the owner and that on the same occasion he criminally stole a Mariah 182 Shabah speedboat valued at £4,250. Mr Picot was also charged with conspiring to import heroin, cannabis and the heroin substitute Subutex between 21 and 22 July, driving while disqualified and without insurance and refusing to provide a specimen of breath, blood and urine. There was a further charge of acting in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace on 5 July at Evans House in Springfield Crescent.

Mr Picot will next appear in court in two weeks’ time on 8 August.
