Police salaries could be cut in spending review

Latest figures from the Home Affairs Department show that up to about a quarter of States police officers are earning between £60,000 and £99,000 a year, excluding pensions and overtime.

On the first day of the job a police constable in Jersey will earn at least £34,089 a year – around £13,000 more than their colleagues in London and £15,000 more than new recruits across the rest of the UK.

In total £21 million of the States police’s annual £24 million budget is spent on staff wages. Now, as part of the second phase of the States’ Workforce Modernisation project, all aspects of States police officers’ pay and terms and conditions are to be reviewed.
