‘Care for pets properly or don’t keep them’

Snowball the cat was suffering from flea dermatitis – an allergic reaction to flea bites – when it was handed in to the Animals Shelter.

After spending £3,000 and nursing the three-year-old back to health over nine weeks, Steven Coleman, chief executive of the JSPCA, has urged Islanders not to have pets if they are unable to look after them in a suitable manner.

Mr Coleman said that the flea dermatitis was ‘totally preventable’ if regular treatments that cost as little as £5 were used.

The Animals Shelter is now looking for a new home for Snowball.
