Pledge to protect more of the coast

The organisation made the announcement about their plans to safeguard more land – an area roughly equivalent to 250 football pitches – as Islanders took their first steps on the newly opened site, following the demolition of the former Pontin’s Holiday Camp.

After a 17-year-long campaign, which received strong public backing, the Trust bought the former tourist spot in 2014 and have since returned it to its natural state.

Two years to the day after the purchase went through court the site was opened to the public on Sunday, with a kite-flying festival and bug safaris for children taking place to mark the occasion.
