Our new man in London

Previously, the main responsibility for the islands’ relationship with the UK lay with Lord Faulks, who resigned as minister of State for Justice last Monday in protest at Liz Truss’s replacing Michael Gove as Lord Chancellor as part of Prime Minister Theresa May’s cabinet reshuffle.

A Ministry of Justice spokesman said: ‘Elizabeth Truss is the Privy Counsellor with special responsibility for island affairs, and she will be supported in this role by Sir Oliver Heald, who takes over as minister responsible for the conduct of the islands’ business in Whitehall. Both are looking forward to working with the Crown Dependencies.’

No impact has been made on the Committee of the Privy Council for the Affairs of Jersey and Guernsey, which deals with island legislation, following Lord Faulks’s resignation, the Ministry of Justice said.
