Ex-minister and singer throw their hats into by-election ring

Providing they secure enough nominations, Mr de Faye and Mr Ocean will join former Senator Sarah Ferguson, who lost her seat in the 2014 election, and LGBT rights campaigner Christian May in contesting the vacant position in a by-election to be held on 7 September.

Political party Reform Jersey also intends to put a candidate forward, who is likely to be one of their three sitting Deputies, Sam Mézec, Montfort Tadier or Geoff Southern. It is expected that the party will make an announcement on the matter this week.

Mr de Faye, who was previously a Deputy, confirmed on Friday that he was intending to stand saying that there was ‘a lot of stuff that I want to do’, while Mr Ocean (61), who was born Stephen Michael Levy and has lived in Jersey since the mid 1980s, said he was ‘a man of the people’.
