Blue Islands boss defends airline’s inter-island record

Last week Senator Lyndon Farnham summoned Flybe to an urgent meeting after concerns were raised over the quality of its inter-island service, following the launch of a ‘franchise partnership’ with Channel Islands-based Blue Islands at the start of June.

Under the agreement, Blue Islands remains an independent, locally owned airline, employing its own crews and undertaking its own maintenance work, but all planes are Flybe-branded and bookings are made through the Flybe website.

But since the partnership was launched, many passengers – including members of the business community – have complained about delays, technical faults and scheduling issues, as well as the high cost of the Jersey-to-Guernsey route.
