Prices rise is highest for nearly two years

Although the annual inflation rate, which stood at 1.5 per cent last month, is the highest it has been since September 2014 – it is still lower than in a number of previous years, with the lowest being -0.6% in September 2009.

Nine out of the 14-item groups measured saw a small increase in prices of between 1% and 5% on average – including leisure goods, leisure services, household services and alcohol.

Meanwhile, fuel prices and household goods dropped in price.
