Lucy to swap classrooms – from Hautlieu to China

Lucy Willis (15), who attends Hautlieu, will become the first Jersey student to spend an entire academic year studying at BaYi High School in Beijing, the educational establishment which was attended by China’s president, Xi Jinping.

Born in GaoAn, JiangXi Province, in 2000, Lucy was adopted by Janet and Andrew Willis – Samarès Primary School’s head teacher – at the age of one and moved to Jersey with them.

When she was three the family returned to China to adopt her sister, Rosie, and Lucy also went back to China in 2009 when her family relocated for 12 months for a study break in Beijing, but whereas in 2009 she attended an international school with all her lessons taught in English, this time she will study exclusively in Mandarin.
