Airport work ‘won’t be funded by taxpayers’

After the company revealed the masterplan – which includes pulling down the current arrivals hall to comply with aviation safety regulations and improved security against terrorist attacks – there have been misconceptions surrounding the project.

Commentators on Facebook have claimed that taxpayers’ money will be used to fund the project – the first stage of which is expected to cost £65 million.

However, Ports of Jersey, which does not receive any grants from the States, says it will use its own revenue, including income from rentals, car park charges and advertising, to pay for the work. It has used these measures previously to fund major projects including the new air traffic control facility.
