Search for Neanderthal man at Gorey

Archaeologist Dr Beccy Scott, from the British Museum, has applied for planning permission to create six one-metre pits and ten hand-drilled boreholes at Petit Portelet – part of the foreshore behind Mont Orgueil castle.

She said the land was an exciting area that had already led to the discovery of Neanderthal artefacts.

This summer Dr Scott and a host of experts from different UK institutions, along with local volunteers and heritage organisations, will continue investigating the Island’s ancient past.
