Children’s mental health services still under-resourced

A total of 39 recommendations have now been made to improve the support available to young people at risk of suicide after concerns were raised following a review undertaken at the request of the Safeguarding Children Partnership Board.

The serious case thematic review, published yesterday, was carried out after several teenagers took their own lives over a ‘relatively short period of time’. The board would not disclose the number of teenagers or their ages.

Although 27 of the 39 recommendations have already been completed, the report has flagged up concerns regarding the ‘level of resourcing’ available to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service which ‘continues to operate at full capacity’ as well as issues recruiting permanent staff.
