Clampdown on abandoned bikes in town

Staff this week began placing notices on bikes that appear to have been left chained up for prolonged periods in and around town, warning owners that unless the vehicles are collected within five days, they will be removed and stored at the parish depot.

St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft said that abandoned bike locks could also be removed as they were unsightly.

Deputy Richard Rondel, who represents St Helier districts three and four, said he contacted parish authorities and the Infrastructure Department after noticing the problem and hearing that cyclists were finding it difficult to park in town.
