The winner of last year’s Neighbour of the Year Award, Kate Lamy, is urging people to nominate their neighbours, as ‘they don’t have to be around daily, but if your neighbour is always there for you when you need them, nominate them’.
Mrs Lamy did not expect a nomination, first learning of it from her neighbour. She said: ‘My neighbour, Mr Bennett, called me to check that it was okay that he’d nominated me and hoped I wouldn’t be upset. Of course I told him that I thought it was a lovely gesture. It was very touching for him to take the time to nominate and compliment someone for their help.’
