Is it time to consider the ‘insurance policy’?

During his time as Bailiff he chaired the Constitutional Review Group, which compiled a report in 2008 that concluded there were no insurmountable reasons why the Island could not become totally self-governing.

Following its publication, the 83-page document was viewed as an ‘insurance policy’ should it ever be necessary for Jersey to break away from Britain in order to safeguard Island interests.

The surprise Brexit vote last week may provide a natural point for the Island’s population to consider its position once again in the same way it did in the early 1970s.
