But fines for drivers who wrongly park in spaces reserved for the disabled must be ‘substantially increased’ to stamp out what is a ‘major issue’ in the Island, according to a charity leader.
Patriotic Street, Minden Place and Sand Street car parks were sites most commonly used by offenders who do not hold the required blue badge to park in a disabled bay.
Edward Trevor, chairman of Shopmobility Jersey, a charity which specialises in the renting of powered scooters largely used by disabled people, said at times it was a ‘major issue’ in the Island and called for fines to be increased from £60 to £100 for first-time offenders.
