Evacuees are remembered

More than 50 people attended the Jersey Evacuees Association ceremony at the harbour-side memorial which marks the return of the Islanders in June 1945. The attendees included the Lieutenant-Governor, General Sir John McColl, the Bailiff, William Bailhache, church leaders and representatives of the British Red Cross and Royal British Legion, evacuees and their families.

For association founder and chairman, Jean McLaughlin, who was two years old when her parents, John and Amelia Quénault, decided to take her to safety in the UK, it was the second significant event of recent days.
