Go-ahead for 80 homes in the east

Nearly half of the units are to be reserved as social-rented and affordable properties under a scheme to demolish derelict glasshouses and develop the former De La Mare Florist site in Grouville off Rue à Don.

Meanwhile, developer David Whalley was given permission to build 45 properties at Les Arches Farm, which sits behind Le Rocquier School in St Clement, despite neighbours calling the scheme an overdevelopment that would bring an unreasonable increase in traffic to surrounding roads.

Both approvals by the Planning Committee on Thursday come as the Island faces an ongoing housing shortage.
