E-bike grants come ‘at the right time’

Last week the Infrastructure Department revealed plans to offer a discount on electric bicycles to anyone over the age of 14 by setting aside £50,000 for each of the next three years and John Rogers, chief executive of the Infrastructure Department, told the JEP that it was important to keep moving environmental issues forward.

The discount is part of the car2cycle scheme, which is designed to improve sustainable transport and persuade Islanders to cycle to work rather than drive.

However, the move was met with criticism by Nick Corbel of Unite the Union who said that offering the grant during a time of cuts ‘beggars belief’.
