Tourism is eager to benefit from TV boost

On Sunday evening millions of viewers across the UK tuned in to watch an episode of the popular BBC1 show, which focused on the production of the Jersey Royal potato and was filmed in various Island locations.

The programme featured footage of St Ouen farmers Didier and Christine Hellio lifting the potatoes, in addition to presenter Matt Baker meeting pupils from St Lawrence School, who were taking part in the annual Genuine Jersey potato-growing competition.

During the evening of the episode, Visit Jersey’s Twitter presence – the number of people commenting and ‘liking’ the organisation’s tweets – was twice the volume of any time in the previous week. It had several statuses retweeted by the official Countryfile account, which has nearly 30,000 followers.
