Last-minute bid to save retailer BHS

A group led by Greg Tufnell, the brother of former England cricketer Phil Tufnell, has been holding talks with administrators this week and a decision on the fate of BHS is due to be announced tomorrow according to reports by the national media.

Last month retail giant BHS – which has 11,000 staff – collapsed into administration, threatening the closure of the Jersey store and 163 other stores throughout Britain.

It is the biggest retail failure since the demise of Woolworths in 2008 and came after talks about a £60 million financing package with investment firm Gordon Brothers failed and up to 60 jobs are at risk in Jersey if the King Street store is closed.
