Unions angry over ‘derisory’ pay offer from the States

The warning from Unite the union’s Nick Corbel comes after a memo was sent to all States staff last week giving an update on ongoing public-sector pay talks and reiterating the employer’s final offer of a one per cent rise for all staff from 1 January as part of a two-year pay deal. Nurses and midwives have been offered an additional 0.4 per cent.

Following the memo, Mr Corbel wrote to Chris Stephenson, head of employment relations for the States, asking for a pledge that the States would not impose the pay rise, which he said was seen as ‘a derisory and offensive offer’, on Unite members who vote to reject the offer in their respective ballots.

The union is preparing to ballot manual workers, a ballot for nurses is under way and the civil service membership are being asked if they will accept the offer.
