We should now follow Guernsey on States reform, says Constable

Following its general election last week, Guernsey will for the first time return just 38 Deputies to its States, compared to 45 previously.

The island’s ten States departments will be streamlined to six committees and the Chief Minister will be replaced by the role of President of the Policy and Resources Committee.

Unlike Jersey, Guernsey has elected only one type of States Member since 2004, when the ten Douzaines – parish representatives – were removed from their assembly.
