Anti-finance centre group count costs of campaign

Last week the St Helier Waterfront Action Group (SWAG) announced that they had launched a last-ditch attempt to derail the Jersey Development Company’s plans to build the second unit of their controversial scheme.

The campaign group are seeking a judicial review and, ultimately, a reversal of the planning approval given to the project, on the basis that it was improper for politicians on the Planning Committee to approve the scheme while an appeal against similar plans for the same building from rival developers Le Masurier was ongoing.

The chairman of SWAG, former politician Sean Power, who once sat as the chairman of the Island’s Planning Committee, said that while his campaign organisation was properly constituted, it did not have ‘a single penny’.
