Thai murders: Lawyers urge convicted men to demand a retrial

Criminal lawyer Mark Trowell QC and forensics specialist Jane Taupin say that the Thai police who investigated the deaths of Islander David Miller (24) and 23-year-old Hannah Witheridge from Norfolk should be reported to an international regulator.

Burmese nationals Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo were found guilty on Christmas Eve last year of murdering Mr Millar and murdering and raping Miss Witheridge on the Thai island on Koh Tao in September 2014.

According to reports in the London Evening Standard, Mr Trowell and Ms Taupin, who are part of a legal team advising defence lawyers, believe that ‘at best’ the DNA investigation by the Thai Police Forensics Laboratory was incompetent and that ‘at worst’ the defendants were framed.
