SARK dressage rider Carl Hester has launched a bid to buy the horse he rode to Olympic gold four years ago – after it was put up for auction.

During the 2012 London Olympics the then 12-year-old stallion Uthopia took Mr Hester to the winner’s team podium following a near perfect display at Greenwich Park.

But the horse now faces being sold off next month alongside supercars, prestige jewellery, watches and designer goods after his Irish owners were declared bankrupt.

Mr Hester, who was listed as the horse’s sole owner in 2010 and 2011, told the Horse and Country website: ‘It has been a distressing experience for us all, with a very unhappy end.
