Under-18s face ban on buying e-cigarettes from next week

States Members voted 34-1 to pass a law aimed at protecting children against nicotine products which are used for vaping – a substitute for cigarette smoking and Tuesday’s decision, which will come into force on 3 May, follows the introduction of a similar law in the UK last October.

In Jersey, it is estimated that two per cent of adults often use e-cigarettes or similar products, whereas figures from the UK show that about four per cent of adults use them on a daily basis.

The only member to vote against the proposal was St Saviour Constable Sadie Le Sueur-Rennard.
