Asylum seeker court case

Arsalan Marreakhy (34) and Amanda Marreakhy (26), who are currently on bail and living in the UK, arrived in the Island for an interim appearance prior to their case being referred to the Royal Court.

Mrs Marreakhy was stopped at the Harbour in January after crossing from St Malo on the Condor Rapide. Customs officers allegedly found her brother-in-law, Amir Marreakhy, in the boot of her Vauxhall Corsa.

Her husband was also in the Island at the time, having arrived on the ferry from Portsmouth the night before, and was arrested shortly afterwards.

The couple were released on bail and have been staying at their home in Batley, West Yorkshire, on condition that they check in every day at the nearby Dewsbury police station.

Relief Magistrate David Le Cornu on Tuesday agreed to revise their bail conditions so that they only have to check in on a weekly basis from now on.

Amir Marreakhy (28) was charged with illegal entry to the Island and has also been bailed.
